The RollerCell is a self-contained, automated roller bottle processing system.
The RollerCell has been designed to automate all stages of roller bottle based tissue culture - from cell inoculation, incubation, media change and trypsinisation through to final harvest. It improves batch consistency and helps to optimise yields. A single RollerCell unit can process the equivalent of 200 standard roller bottle simultaneously, producing dramatic time-savings, leading to significant reductions in labour costs and the virtual elimination of handling related contamination.
The RollerCell consists of two main components, the RollerCell Bottle Packs and the RollerCell Processing Unit. Traditionally, tissue culture in roller bottles has been divided into two distinct phases - incubation and bottle processing. The incubation phase is carried out in incubators or hot rooms, using conventional roller apparatus, whilst bottle processing is carried out manually by skilled operators in laminar flow conditions - or by a robotic processor.

The RollerCell 40 has 2 twenty-position rotors, each fitted with a multichannel peristaltic pump. Pump volume, rotor direction and speed are controlled via a simple programmable CPU (lower picture).
One RollerCell 40 system enables a single operator to complete a full roller bottle tissue culture protocol - seeding, media change, trypsinisation and harvest - for an equivalent of 200 standard roller bottles in less than 2 hours
